You can turn down the difficulty and still be starving. Different people will have different sweet spots where they're suffering, but not taken out of the game by death loops and constant frustration.
I think you misunderstood what I said about restarting. A lot of people, especially those who are new, will get stuck in some kind of death loop around day 3-6. Death is intended. A death LOOP is not. A loop will stop your progress.
I have seen loads of people give those folks a min-max itinerary and tell them to restart and play ALL of that story again. Do you think people will get to day 6 again if they have to read all that text again? Do you think they'll have a good experience story-wise? Do you think they will ever finish it? It's not a short game. It's definitely not about min-maxing either. Restarting is a great way to break the emotional journey.
What I think people should do in a death loop is to temporarily turn down what they need to turn down and turn it back up after they're through whatever they were stuck on.
Sorry. I went overboard and started arguing with people who aren't here. I do think 2 days is way too far for most people to want to go back. I didn't even want to go back to that morning the one time I accidentally traded away a quest item for a snack.
Don't listen to people who tell you not to turn the difficulty down or to restart if you find yourself in a place where it's impossible to move on. Try to find the sweet spot where it's almost unbearable. That's the key word. It should still be a little bit bearable. I think one tick down on hunger is a good place to start if you've never played the original and don't already know the map and the hobo economy.
And if you need to mod out something you really can't stand hit me up. I might be able to do it if it's simple enough.
