At my new job I have to use AWS extensively. It is like a cult. They have cannibalized open-source projects and have vendor lock-in. Absolutely the case that management doesn't give a shit about running instances being billed passively, but if you ask for a pay increase or even hint at unionizing, you're informed that it's isn't possible or even fired. They pull these bullshit metrics about "generating value" using panopticon time tracking surveillance from scrum/Agile daily standups. Paying a team of parasitic micromanagers/project managers to bust the developers balls every morning to make sure they're getting their money's worth is unquestioned. The biggest salary bump comes from having another job lined up and using it as collateral. Like a hostage situation.
Yeah, techbros at big companies are mostly sociopaths. The anonymous nature of the Blind website makes it like 4chan for tech.
A couple of other websites I have found useful is h1b salary database. companies have to disclose what they paid for h1b roles https://h1bdata.info/ . Another interesting website, Blind, allows anonymous gossip for tech companies. you can only register if you have a verified corporate email account: https://www.teamblind.com/
Problem is, a term like full-stack developer has a lot of variance. On Glassdoor, full-stack developer has a low of 72,000 and a high of 145,000. The average is 105,813.
Yeah, you think you're connecting with some Boomer based on a mutual love of Sun Ra and then the icy fist of economic calculation appears.
I was asked this mid-interview with the hiring manager. Was caught off guard because we were discussing something tangential like taste in books and music, then wham , "what's your salary expectation?" Was caught off guard and lulled into a sense of friendship before feeling I had to give a hard number for the talk to proceed.
Agreed. Chapos better versed in the dismal science can explain the gyrations of the market for the rest of us. It would be tremendously useful.
This one hurts so much. Andre was fearless.

My friends tuned out because it was "too low budget". Americans cannot pay attention unless it is shiny and covered with grease. Chris Hedges, Medea Benjamin, and Cornel West are the real deal. They have been arrested and sued the US govt. The broad coalition of speakers: women of color, union leaders, environmentalists is precisely what is needed to form a broad intersectional anti-capitalist front against the fascist American empire.
Memphis will always be a special place.
