"Eat shit and die" isn't really the message that needs to be sent right now.

news•Trans Resistance Network, Media Statement on the March 27, 2023 School Shooting in Nashville, TN
·3 years agoLook, I'm trying to echo the line advocated by the Trans Resistance Network. "The second and more complex tragedy" is right there, although I guess not many read through that wall of text.
Trump as a philosopher.
OK, you made me laugh, you bastard.
People would literally dox their name and address in these massive yellow pages.
White pages. The yellow pages were for business listings. It's how you'd find a plumber, or a furniture store. Blue pages (a thin strip in the middle of the phone book) were government listings.
And it wasn't "doxing yourself". Everyone was there. It was a proud sign of adulthood when you got your own listing in the phone book.
If someone had moved to a new city, all you had to do was go there and look them up in that city's phone book. Presto, reconnected with your lost friend.

news•Looks like a trans man just shot up some place in Tennessee.
·3 years agoAny shooting with 4 or more victims. It's being used as a cudgel by the right now, because these big ones that make the news are always white men, but the smaller ones never get reported beyond short local coverage.

Sino•What if Chinese politicians started dressing Chinese?
·3 years agoEven if it's ethno-nationalist? By the majority population that overwhelmingly dominates the minorities? I think there's room to be a bit judgy there.

·3 years agoIt was lame when e e cummings did it, it's so old and busted now. Such a pretentious affectation.

·3 years ago"Tu" means earth. Western dress is 西装, "western costume". It used to be quite fashionable in the post-Qing era. It showed you weren't a slave to tradition like so many others, and were forward-looking and progressive.

·3 years agoThe pockets are real, but usually sewn shut as it looks better. The first thing I do with a new suit coat is get a thread ripper and open all the pockets. I can't stand sewn up pockets.

·3 years agoIn storage I have a real Mao suit. I was in China and asked one of the girls where I could find one. The next time I saw her, to my surprise, she had two of them. In an even bigger surprise, one of them actually fit me.
They were 100% authentic, she said they were her grandfather's and he didn't wear them any more. There were no tags or care markings on them.
I have to dig it out next time I'm at my Mom's house.

·3 years agoOh, I assure you it's not hard to tell a tailored suit from an off-the-rack one. You just have to see if it fits correctly or not. Then you look at the fabric, etc. I find a helpful shortcut is to look at the shoes. Well-off people don't buy shoes from Foot Locker, they have cobblers.

·3 years agoNot Chinese dress. Hanfu.
Every ethnicity in China has its own traditional clothing. Hanfu is the clothing of the Han, who are the overwhelming majority in China. Usually nobody wears it unless it's a photo session for a wedding or a tea ceremony or some shit. There are a few weirdos who wear it every day, it's called the "hanfu movement" and it's mostly died out by a few years ago.
Never heard of 28 gauge.
12 gauge is standard, 20 is for kids or people who don't like recoil, 10 gauge is for hunting elephants or some shit. 410, for shooting snakes in the top of the head maybe? I've only ever seen one in the wild.
The name for this is "busman's holiday".
I quit playing flight sims in the early 2000s when I read an account written by someone who was in Canada's Air National Guard. They were playing on a recreational server and wiping the floor with everyone. Because, obviously, they're professional fighter pilots. Imagine playing poker with Doyle Brunson or basketball with Kobe Bryant to consider how fair that is.

·3 years agoDon't post it or look at it. It's dangerous and has the potential to cause more mass shootings.

Chapotraphouse•Elon: "My prediction is that Twitter will be the only platform you can trust."
·3 years agoIt's pretty obvious that old-fashioned text forums are going away. They are already full of bots, and AI is going to make them completely worthless. The only way to interact will be with verified other humans, which means the end of anonymity and a Chinese-style internet with real name verification required to post anything. This also means stray outside the guardrails they set, you are permanently banned for life because your real identity is connected to your posts. No alts, no ban evasion, nothing. Facebook already requires real names, and the last time I tried to use Paypal, a service I had an account with since 2000, it blocked me and stated, "upload a picture of you holding your ID". Well, that was the end of my Paypal account. Youtube is next, and Google close behind, since a Youtube account is pretty much a Google account.

I see what you did there
