"avoid pandering to those individuals on the Right who will use this double-tragedy to torment fear and terror of transgender people in order to advance a political agenda of transgender elimination."

This statement is the worst possible response and if I were part of this organization I'd start asking questions about whether the people responsible are wreckers.

It appeals to people to not give credence to the right wingers trying to paint trans people as dangerous mentally ill shooters right after it spends several paragraphs trying to mitigate the shooter's actions by claiming mentally illness and almost straight out saying "you're lucky more trans people aren't like this."

There's also sundry other things wrong with the statement like failing to find time to condemn the shooter or the shooting in that wall of text, as well as using copraganda passive voice bullshit but that pales in comparison to implicitly linking the shooter's actions to being trans while appealing to people to not link his actions to being trans.

    Seriously messed up statement.

Yeahhhh I'm actually gonna go with the mass shooter was a shitty person, fuck them. Getting shot by cops after doing a mass shooting is not a tragedy. This is fucked.

Yeah I don’t like this at all tbh. I get what they’re trying to say and trans solidarity is important, but it’s really tone deaf to release a statement like this calling it a double tragedy and sympathizing with the shooter when the bodies of the slaughtered kids aren’t even buried yet.

No, you don't get it. He was oppressed and that's why he had to shoot his oppressors: random children.

No link and no visible handle? How am I supposed to look up this account and see what they’re about? Without that context, there’s little discussion to be had here beyond what’s already been said.

Edit: ah, because the account is protected.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/ResistanceTrans

I guess I’ll just say that this shooter could have had the most ideologically aligned motivations possible deriving directly from their oppression and this would still be adventurism. Killing random kids does not accomplish trans liberation. And the reality is that we probably won’t know what his motivations were. Did him being trans play into it? Probably. Should pro-trans organizations be making statements claiming him as aligned with their cause? Absolutely fucking not.

There are plenty of fascists already trying to do this. And Elon Musk even "chimed in" on one on Twitter. (CW: transphobia, obviously, but the transphobia is being made fun of in a thread started by a trans person. )

      spoiler

"One thing is VERY clear: The trans movement is radicalizing activists into terrorists"

      Elon's respone: "!"

Aiden or Aubrey's tragedy was not that he was shot after killing three innocent people, fuck him.

His tragedy was that he became a killer in the first place, the murderous product of a sick society.

The tragedy is his actions and the circumstances that preceded them. His death is par for the course considering you know, active shooter and all.

Look, I'm trying to echo the line advocated by the Trans Resistance Network. "The second and more complex tragedy" is right there, although I guess not many read through that wall of text.

Yes I did read the entire thing. Most likely people did not read this at all since you posted a screenshot of tiny text instead of the image they posted along with a link.

People probably didn't suspect an insanely dangerous radioactive take was lurking in there.

Do you think that describing a mass shooting as the "only effective way to be seen" at a moment when rightists are trying to paint transgender rights advocacy as terrorism is wise?

These influencers don't fuck around. They say "I'm going to get a billion engagements on a tweet lying in the most vile ways you can possibly imagine" and they do it. Elon Musk, who was recently the richest man in the world and uses his purchase of one of the most popular social networks solely to push culture war bullshit, is harping on this exact issue.

You can feel bad for anyone you want. Most people with even a half-decent sense of empathy can find ways to empathize with anyone no matter what they did. Lots of mass shooters are autistic on top of being white supremacists. I could feel bad for them if I wanted. White men’s autism being leveraged to radicalize them and redirect the rage of their oppression elsewhere is an incredibly common pattern. But I don’t. Because I’ve had my empathy weaponized against me too many times on my life and if I can’t draw a boundary around wasting time feeling bad for people who murder children, how am I supposed to draw that boundary elsewhere?

That's for you I guess and thats okay. i personally dont find it such a emotionally arduous task to consider the victims and the perpetrator. Like are the people who killed the Russian tsars children bad? I personally have a hard time having any empathy for rich people.
