  • Can we talk about shite urban design and city planning in the US is and how much it fails to consider any kind of long term human habitation in any sort of logical reality? The heat islands, the fixation on single family homes, the distribution of local taxes to schools in said areas, the constant destruction of wet lands and green space, the lack of planning in social resources (putting food banks and shelters on opposite sides of the city so these people who are frequently disabled are forced to traverse basically an asphalt desert in order to meet basic needs), the focus on cars over less destructive forms of transit, the choice to develop areas that are NOT suitable for human habitation (wetlands, burn zones, eroding lands). Good god theres so much wrong I could just keep going.

Im relatively new to hexbear (better part of a yearish) and my experience with the federation process has been honestly, kind of negative. Part of what I found most appealing about hexbear was the incredibly safe space it was. I used to love seeing and recognizing regular intelligent and sometimes silly contributions from a variety of hex regs and now it just seems the feed is flooded with libs and -honestly- ignorant chatter. I've since switched it to local which has more or less fixed the issue but tbh, I miss pre-lemmy crossover in particular. I’m pretty severely on the spectrum and also “queer” (I have such mixed feels about that word but it saves me from oversharing) and I liked having a protected shared safe space and I mourn that loss a little bit. I know there isn’t much point to stating all this but I do feel a bit better airing my opinion. Anyways to all the posters belonging to the long time hexbear group, I love you guys and all the perspectives you bring to this site, please never stop ❤️

  • I agree and would try this same approach. It can be difficult being firm in social situations as there are so many factors to consider. I feel like the risk is worth it to resolve the situation however. If they dont mean it maliciously then perhaps they will amend their behavior once they themselves arrive at the conclusion thoroughly that you have this boundary.
