Socialism is a mode of production.
A mode of production refers to the way humans organize themselves to socially reproduce.
Socialism is the ownership of the means of production by the class who uses the means of production.
A change in diets & relations to animals does not change the mode of production.
Even criticisms would be fine if the atmosphere wasn't as hostile.
Like, the Anarchist/ML split flares up occasionally here, but we have managed without the site collapsing.
I'm completely open to learning more about veganism. I try to avoid meat because the industrial practices are horrifying & industrial meat production is destructive.
But also, I was raised around animals. I've developed social & cultural relationships with animals that end with killing. I genuinely believe these relationships are beneficial for me and the animals.
I disagree with vegans who believe that morality between humans is the same as morality between humans & any given species of animal.
But this disagreement doesn't need to be inflamed, and I agree with vegans like 99% of the time.
There are too many outdoor cats in this world for me to be vegan.
Outside cat discourse was the GOAT. I didn't really care to take it seriously and both sides were hilarious.
Cheers! I'm looking forward to beginning to put this pandemic in the past.
It is fitting that I'm getting my vaccine & this site is falling apart the same week lmao
If they’re all as awful as the ones who’ve been starting shit for the last week
Yeah, that's 100% sign to abandon ship.
It's cool the infrastructure of this website was built up, just to hand it over to a circlejerk subreddit.
Vegans are allowed to criticize people for not being vegan
I'm responding to vegans going after non-vegans. I'm 100% cool with vegans being here. I would also oppose a rule letting non-vegans start shit with vegans.
So, why exactly did this vegan subreddit get banned lol
If their whole thing was, going into other communities & starting shit, that kinda explains the ban + what's going on here.
The extent this goes to create a space for vegans to treat people like shit is astounding.
Vegans are allowed to criticize people for not being vegan, especially in their own comm. This doesn’t constitute sectarianism, classism, racism, etc.
What exactly does sectarianism mean to the mod team? It is pretty clear this site is divided into sects on this issue, and inflaming that tension accomplishes absolutely nothing.
Like, I get that vegans really believe their belief system. I genuinely believe that Marxism-Leninism is a settled science. But constantly inflaming these disagreement makes this site unbearable.
I'm not convinced there is anyone on this site with PTSD has meat as a trigger. I'm glad to hear someone out & change my opinion if I'm wrong.
But it sounds just like a continuation of this petty vegan vs. non-vegan nonsense, and one that is pretty disrespectful to people with PTSD.
I think it’s bullshit that NSFW has to be applied to meat posts on the Food comm. If looking at cooked meat is traumatizing, you obviously haven’t experienced actual trauma
Wait, that's a thing that's actually happening right now???
How do you have a traumatizing experience with meat? What circumstance does that happen? Like, I understand how transphobia, rape, war, etc. can cause PTSD. But how does someone go through a traumatic meat experience?
AOC trying to explain how this COVID bill is a win, actually is one of the most embarrassing political stunts I've ever seen.
We basically agree on everything, so I don't want to keep this conversation going.
we’re constantly asked to nuance an issue when a black person is on the wrong end of the scope
The problem is when nuance is provided to everyone but the most oppressed. Material reality is most sympathetic to them.
i am also considering that family of the people on the roof have since expressed regret and shame about the events and contextualized it within anti blackness.
That's good. They share a common, powerful enemy.
im also responding to how “roof koreans” seems to be generally misunderstood and celebrated in a very unnuanced positive way
Celebrating "rooftop Koreans" is reactionary nonsense
theyre willing to shoot people to protect property, even if their property means alot to them
This is true for basically anyone. Plenty of progressive forces have laid down their lives to protect property. You can make the distinction between personal & private property, native land & stolen land, etc. In this case we are talking about impoverished, nationally oppressed petite bourgeoisie protecting their livelihood.
Riots are the inevitable reaction to dispossession & exploitation under capitalism, and condemning rioters for moral failures is absolutely childish. However, neither rioters nor the petite bourgeoisie's reaction represents a progressive force. A riot is an unfortunate circumstance which leads various sectors of the lower classes to go to war against each other.
Blanket condemnation or support seems really out of place under these circumstances.
Nah, the last paragraph is 100% correct. There is not much English-language news with a better track record covering geopolitics.
