There's so much ideological analysis of conservative people. But not nearly enough of neoliberal post-Reaganite society in very recent years, or in other words, mainstream United States. You ever notice that the majority of ideology many rich neoliberal people, and by extension, many 'upper-middle-class' or, I guess, PMC? people in similar states of prosperity, seems to exist entirely in justifying their own unhappiness and other's unhappiness by blaming it on themselves and them? I swear every techbro has a strange mash of stolen spiritual beliefs, classic pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstrapsism, and ableism that makes up their whole worldview.

I think it's because genuine happiness requires such immense action against one's own class position in these cases that the most natural response is to rationalize it as the result of something else, either personal fault or some sort of Other (because, while happiness may be something many pursue, very few people pursue it to the cost of survivability. And revolution is extremely risky). Conservatives actually have it way better than liberals in this sense, because they don't spend most of their ideological discussions basically telling each other how they're at fault for literally everything bad in their life. They actually try to find issues in the real world besides "you have a bad brain" to tackle. Which makes sense because it's a lot easier to make fake shit up then it is to hate yourself all the time, and the only reason richer neoliberal types expose themselves to this is probably because they pride themselves on being the Reasonable Ones and, denying themselves both revolutionary thought and self-delusion, their only option is complete and utter hatred of themselves and others who they view as intrinsically lesser, less intelligent, and more 'vulgar'. I agree with this. I do think, also, that it is possible that the "bland media" phenomenon is a result of a lack of class consciousness as well? We seem to put so much stock into trauma-related and dark stuff as "prestige tv", the very things that people who have experienced so much trauma and issues are likely to want to avoid (though of course not always), that the only thing left to do as proper "hard-hitting" media besides that is radical critiques and social commentaries that are positive in tone. And because that has connotations of successful and effective revolution (of many different contexts), that is the only kind of art they are not allowed to do. So the options available to artists under capitalism are basically either venting (but resigned and without catharsis or resolution), purposefully pointless spectacle, or psychic self-harm. It's no wonder basically nothing is compelling, because we have had the actual essence of victory as a concept taken away from our cultural landscape. The only things left are things getting worse, or if we're lucky, stagnancy through struggle ("super hero" stories). In even our most optimistic dreams we've managed to appropriate the appearance of catharsis and relief, but have ousted the thing itself from our collective conception of reality, so its hollow and feels somehow darker than things just getting worse normally.

No this is important context. I think maybe you're pointing out the actual phenomenon that right wing people use dishonestly as "proof" of their beliefs, which is that left-wing stuff is often defanged and then catered to insofar that it is still defanged, so that capitalists can protect themselves from boycotts/strikes/actions done in the name of social movements. I think it's more precisely that the "softness" and cultural sensitivity of actors, both dead and alive, is appropriated in such a way that other actors (and theater kids) have to conform to it (avoid bringing up the logical conclusions of progressive ideas because they threaten capital) or risk being fired or having their pay cut.

I can't convince you that its normal or something. But I feel like most people on sites like that who aren't full on probably aren't there to sexualize the show. There's probably a surprising amount of attention to some nsfw art of adult characters that would get made, because I wouldn't be surprised if emotional connection from watching it as a kid themselves/other psychological shit would lead to a lot of people liking that stuff that otherwise wouldn't. But that's different from sexualizing the show as a whole (in the brains of most people, it would be too weird for me IMO). For the same reason that people can have fantasies over an actor in a tv show without feeling weird about watching it with their family, I guess (again I can't relate but I assume people do this).

To address your point here, I don't know much about MLP but I do know that a significant portion of (non-libertarian) people who are drawn to nsfw art of shows of that sort are drawn to "mommy/daddy" type characters probably because of some sort of intersection of horniness, nostalgia, and shelter/safety/some kind of psychological thing. There are unfortunately huge amounts of libertarian weirdos that also exist in both that space and in regular communities too though, so my point doubly stands here.
