  • Not really. I never got into mobile gaming, tiktok, reels, shorts, instagram, snapchat etc. so I mainly use my phone for podcasts, maps and browsing lemmy while on toilet. While on my computer I spend 95% of my time on YouTube but I feel like even that has gotten worse lately. I've been getting suggestions about videos with like 19 views constantly and no matter how many I mark as "not interested" or "don't recommend channel" they just keep coming back. Apparently because I like watching TheRunningManZ I must also like every other DayZ streamer that no one has ever heard about.

  • As an addict I'd say that it can't be used in a healthy way. What I mean by that is that there's no benefit to watching porn. That doesn't mean it's always going to be bad but that at best it's neutral. If you can keep it under control and it doesn't negatively affect your life in other ways then I don't think you need to worry about it but it's a slippery slope. If you take 100 people and give them access to porn I'd bet that the total effect is going to be a net-negative even though most of them are going to be more or less unaffected.

  • PIA was sold to Kape Technologies a few years back and they have somewhat questionable history and that made me switch to Mullvad. Not because I thought it's better VPN per-se, but because I wanted away from PIA and Mullvad seemed popular.

The issue is who he sold it to -- the notorious creator of some pernicious data-huffing ad-ware, Crossrider. The UK-based company was cofounded by an ex-Israeli surveillance agent and a billionaire previously convicted of insider trading who was later named in the Panama Papers. It produced software which previously allowed third-party developers to hijack users' browsers via malware injection, redirect traffic to advertisers and slurp up private data.

  • I've been dealing with this back pain under my right shoulder blade for like 6 years or so and I can't seem to figure out what's causing it or how to treat it. I think it's called "rhomboid pain". I've seen a doctor once and physical therapist twice and the best they can do is recommend I stretch and go get a massage. Yeah thanks guys. Totally haven't tried any of that.

I've always had a bad posture but it's been getting better yet the pain has gotten worse so I don't think it's that. I doubt it's weight lifting either because I had been lifting for almost 10 years before the pain appeared and taking a break doesn't make it better and lifting heavy doesn't make it worse. I don't think it's mountain biking either because the pain started before I bought my bike. I also got a new bed, tried different pillows, tried sleeping on my back, pillow under my knees. Sleeping on both sides with a pillow between my legs. Nothing. Also it's rarely bad in the mornings but rather on the evenings.

Well - it's still early to say, but I have a new idea what might be causing it and I think this might actually be it. I think it's because I switched from a desktop computer to laptop. It perfectly correlates with the time I started experiencing this pain. I now sit for hours and hours every day with my right hand extended to reach the trackpad. It has to be that. I now switched to mouse and a keyboard and let's see if that makes a difference. Only been doing that for few days now but I have zero pain right now.

  • A true virtual reality. Not goggles, but the kind that hooks up into your brain and consciousness. One that's indistinguishable from real life. The kind where you can basically just live your entire life in some kind of a virtual multiplayer where quite literally anything is possible. You could be hooked up to an IV that feeds you optimal diet etc. go off the deep end if you want.

I know how it might seem crazy to see something like that as a desirable thing, but I really think it would solve many of the issues in the world. I don't think you're "wasting your life" if you're being happy in a virtual world, and I don't see a reason why you couldn't be happy there. You could have your own private world(s) and others would have theirs. There would be public worlds also with a ton of real people aswell as AI, and people could visit your worlds aswell if you let them. Just think about the possbilities. Why ruin the planet when you can have abundance in the virtualverse.
