  • I do often use my 5-knot and Amleth belt as regular belts with my normal outfit, thought Im giving the 5-knot belt as a gift so Ill be using the amleth belt more often. I usually wear mostly black so they make a nice splash of color.

For reference heres the belts Im talking about:

Since the Amleth belt wraps around twice I can leave the second half outside the loops so it can hang down below my shirt showing off the pattern. Unfortunately its ends hang a bit low so I haven't worn it to work since it would get in the way.

  • Finished the last belt of the year. Its been a pretty crazy ride. Im probably going to focus on more complex designs going forward, since Im not planning on giving a bunch as presents so I dont have to rush myself like I did with many of these. But next year is also going to be a bit more hectic since Ill be moving out, hopefully Ill still have time to focus on this. I do love my weaving.

Front and back on this one are perfectly mirrored which is cool

It really doesnt look that good on my black tunic, but it works well with the white one. This one is also quite a bit wider than my other cotton belts, which I quite like.

And here is my whole year in review! Every belt I made in 2024:

  • Got started on my new pattern, but I ran into a weird problem, its not to visible on this pic

But here on these you can clearly see the way the warp is pulling apart exposing the weft. Aparently I set up my warp threads too far apart on my loom, which has nails to provide some seperation for the individual cards, but that caused it to pull apart so I couldn't get it tight enough. Usually I have the opposite problem and its pulled to tightly leaving oddly thin areas near the start of the band.

This backlit one is a good illustration of how tablet weacing works, with the warp twisting around itself and being locked in place by the weft. You can see where one of the cards changes direction, reversing the twist of the warp causing the threads to skip one line of of the weft.

Ive since fixed it, and it looks a lot neater now, but I had to cut that length off after starting this newer one so I lost a bit of work which sucks. Itll make a good bookmark though.

  • Nowhere near ready to try that raven pattern I made lol, so for now Ive set up a pretty simple pattern. Its a variation on the wave pattern I did earlier, with several combined together to make a branching pattern that sort of looks like vines. Also i wanted something in green since thats a color I don't use much. Oh and its completely reversible on the back too, something you dont see a lot which is cool.

While making the warp I almost perfectly hit the end of my white spool right as I finished pulling the last of the threads off. Pretty neat.
