Other way round for me, my IRL time contains the serious shit, I come online for escapism
I can't even get too mad at this, it makes complete sense for an OS to have built-in malware scanning because casual users will unintentionally install dodgy shit. The key thing is that those of us who don't want Google having a nosey through our device can still disable it trivially, because if that option goes then suddenly we're as bad as Windows!
Do you want to see people suffering? Because that's fucked up.
Firstly, that sounds like a shit situation to be in, so please don't think I'm dismissing your struggles here.
I don't live in the same country as you and I have no power to even slightly affect your political situation. I read enough bad news about stuff that I at least have a chance to get involved in that sometimes I want to read some funnies on the internet without having to read about another shit situation. It's not because I don't care, it's because it's not worth stressing out further about something I cannot do anything about.
So yeah, that's why people don't want so see US politics everywhere. Just because something is very important doesn't mean it's very important to everyone.
TIL there are multiple open street map apps (obvious that there would be now I think about it!)
Clearly I have nothing to add, but thanks for asking the question, I'll be saving the post and trying out all the answers!
But it does have an app store, one that functions similarly to Aurora. Also nothing is forcing you to use that cloud storage, use whichever you want!
Double-pressing the power button to open the camera should be an option you can enable in Settings
Yes, you have described the concept of a troll, well done.
I tried out gadgetbridge too, seemed largely functional though I did notice the Bluetooth drop. Also it apparently uses old Bluetooth rather then BTLE? I'll stick with Rebble for now but it's good to know there's a decent replacement when it eventually packs in!
OK, so after a few days of denying the pebble app network privileges everything seems to be working fine! Obviously I can't access the app store now but I can just temporarily reactivate network if I want to download something new. I don't really use any apps that need network (in the pebble's old age I'd rather it take it easy and save battery and let the much newer phone run the things I need to run!) so there's no real loss for my use case.
https://ttrpg.network is a tabletop roleplaying game focused instance run by the people who ran r/dndnext
https://mander.xyz/ has lots of cool science and nature news and pics
Hey, I've just realised that we're not on Reddit anymore so nobody will tell me off for recommending the best resource out there, 5e.tools!
If I just deny the Pebble/Rebble app network permissions will that achieve a similar result?
Never heard of this before, looks interesting. Have you used it with a Pebble before? What works, what doesn't?
Ah fair point. You could run WhatsApp in a work profile or on a second device, but you'd probably have to jump through some hoops with a second phone number.
How are either of those better?
So what do they do when you say "I don't have a smartphone"?
If they want you to use WhatsApp they can provide you with a device to use it on, then at least it's completely isolated from your own data and can't do too much harm.
My complaint was about the "subreddits as hashtags" thing that people did on Reddit where they'd link a non-existent sub (or one that only contained screenshots of people linking to it) instead of thinking of something original.
Separately, what's wrong with the !iso8601@lemmy.ml format? It's pretty simple to remember and is very much part of the federated way that Lemmy is designed to be used!
Drinking alcohol or buying it? Because in Britain it's 18 to buy it yourself but 5 to have it at home.
