help-circle

  • At this point, the guy is in what amounts to a very weird and public self harm routine that he gets paid for. None of his treatments will produce any data of scientific value when he runs them all at once without doing any sort of controls. And if one of his treatments manages to miraculously increase his lifespan, he'll never even know because it'll almost certainly be cancelled out by all the other pseudo scientific shit he's doing to himself.

  • You can't just analyze this conflict based entirely on events since 2022 when you first started hearing about it in the news. There's a whole half century of events leading up to this, and as of now it's taboo to talk about any of that throughout much of the western world. But by way of linear time, those events are necessary to actually understand what's happening. Otherwise, all you have to go on is propaganda and vibes, and that's what I'm seeing in your two sentence summary.

This is primarily about NATO wanting to encircle Russia, and the card they've chosen to play is using Ukraine as proxy by installing a fascist, rabidly anti-Russian government during the Maidan coup in 2014. Ukraine is not a sovereign state under this coup government. But even if you want to somehow argue they are, if their sovereignty means allowing NATO to militarize one of Russia's largest and most vulnerable land borders with short range nuclear missiles, then it's clearly an existential issue for Russia who has every right to intervene on that.

I'm not going to cry that they broke the Ukraine nuclear disarmament treaty when Ukraine, the US, and NATO as a whole routinely violate every single promise and treaty they've ever made with Russia. In fact, a major condition of the dissolution of the Soviet Union was for NATO to agree they would not continue to expand into the former Eastern Bloc, Ukraine chief among them. Russia tried for far too long to assimilate into the global capitalist system only for the economic and proxy wars to continue and for the encirclement to accelerate, signalling that NATO never had any intention of ever allowing Russia to coexist as a great power on the world stage, regardless of Russia's willingness to liberalize and subject their own people to devastating, crushing, massively deadly austerity during shock therapy.

But also think about how Russia took most of the LPR and DPR in just the first weeks of the war. It's because those areas were already in a civil war against Ukraine. Ukraine has been shelling civilian population centers in the east of the country for years, they were ethnically cleansing Eastern Ukraine of Russian speakers, they have literally banned the Russian language. You can't say "Russia's fault, they invaded first!" when they were joining an existing war on the side of the people Ukraine was trying erase, regardless if that wasn't their only motive.

To their credit, Russia exhausted every diplomatic option they had before NATO had Ukraine abandon all negotiation and peace talks. Ukraine was signatory to the two Minsk agreements in which they promised to cease their ethnic cleansing in the east of the country and accept a ceasefire, but we know now it was entirely in bad faith. They were never intending to follow through with this, rather they were buying time to militarize with the help of NATO.

All this is to say, Russia is clearly not the aggressor here when you look at the actual timeline of events. The story that gets told 24/7 in western news media is blatantly a farce.

I was thinking of accelerationism in the sense of a purposeful worsening of conditions to spur marginalized communities into action. Things were going to get worse under either party, but it's much worse when the western liberals are also putting their weight on the scale alongside the Democratic establishment.

Trump is going to have to fight protests and uprisings to enact his domestic agenda, but the Democrats would have enacted nearly the same set of policies while blaming it on obscure senate rules or another one of their rotating villains.

Trump is only the accelerationist candidate if you assume that he is personally more competent than the deepstate ghouls Kamala was going to let pick her cabinet. He isn't, and by clearly being the final decision on who will run his administration, he is almost certainly going to further hurt US foreign policy goals while inspiring actual resistance to the shitty domestic policies the establishment Democrats had no interest in fighting.

Also, there's a very good chance that in 3 years time Trump's own cognitive decline will become as obvious as Biden's.

  • were probably some of the more active comms on this site besides chat, mutual aid, and chapomainhouse.

This is a very important point and I don't see it brought up much. We should not be blanket deciding that low effort posts are not welcome on Hexbear because Hexbear unironically needs low effort post as an indispensable part of the site culture.

Low effort posts by their nature are a dime a dozen, they help keep the place active and lively. High user activity for the size of our userbase has always been a defining feature of both Hexbear and the subreddit before it. High effort posts come naturally as a consequence of discussion often originating in lower effort threads.

  • On board with most people here saying it shouldn't be called gossip, and getting rid of the racist pun is cool and good.

But if we're still allowing shitreactionariessay to be federated with Hexbear, then I don't see why we can't have that content on a local comm now that people can block individual communities.

People who don't like that content don't need to see it, I don't understand this ongoing trend of insistence that no one else should see it on a local Hexbear comm either. Especially when so many comrades have shared how these communities serve as sanity checks, the one place we can reaffirm to ourselves and to our comrades that the reactionary slog of our everyday lives is neither necessary nor normal.

And as others have brought up, lemmygrad is a sectarian space, meaning all that's essentially changed is that we no longer have a left unity space for this type of content on our federation network.
