I have never heard it described that way. It's the last warm weather of the year before winter. It was something to look forward to.

You sound just like someone from Nazi Germany.
24% think it's headed in the right direction?
That's also a dumb idea.
That's a dumb idea.
It's the same story in many cities; the government doesn't handle both managing money AND providing housing. The government should stick to just managing the funds and let private industry manage the housing.
This is an average including the most expensive areas of the county. Homes are still very affordable in areas like the Midwest (under $200k and sometimes under $100k).
It's always last minute.
Is your cat declawed? Sometimes cats that are declawed might not want to use the litter box. It's one of the problems with declawing.
Declawing cats is a horrible practice and should never be done.
I used to use RiF (Reddit is Fun). Then it died. I searched for an alternative to Reddit.
If there was a course in carpentry, I would take that.
Federal rental assistance programs provided states with $48.5 billion in 2020.
The federal government spent $90 billion on housing assistance 2021.
At this point Lemmy seems to be reduced to people saying "capitalism bad" in meme form for upvotes.
I'm new to Lemmy but it just feels more like Reddit in the sense that if you're not part of the "hive mind", then you're just told to "go away" instead of participating in actual discussion.
It's caused me to post less than when I initially joined. There's not as much activity on Lemmy than on the Reddit equivalent in the main "channel" I read. So I've found myself wandering back to Reddit but I don't post or comment much there either.
Moms for Liberty has attracted condemnation for their promotion of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, opposition to race-focused history lessons and calls to ban books they deem inappropriate for children.
"Liberty" is misleading. They don't want freedom, they want oppression.
Swearing at someone doesn't foster discussion.
There are people who can't save up for a down payment and therefore wouldn't be able to responsibly take care of a house even if they were given one.
There's people who don't want to own a house. A house comes with a bunch of costs and responsibility.
These are just a few examples. There's quite a number more. Some people like knowing that expenses like that are covered by someone else.
In the grocery store example, there's people who like growing their own food. For others, they'd rather someone else do that even if they're paying a markup to buy it from a grocery store, because they can get everything in one place.
With renting, you're paying for a place to live and store your stuff. That's a product. It's a physical thing you can touch.
With food, you use it for a while then it just goes down the toilet in the end. Does that mean you should stop eating?
That's like saying grocery stores are a "scam".
It's easy to blame billionaires or anyone else but look at those who choose to do drugs or alcohol for example.
