I haven't explored Jellyfin's categorization, but could that be an alternative? It's FOSS
I'm located in Canada so I picked between the local ones. I spent a lot of my time looking at subs for my city/province/school/Canada, so it seemed like a good call. I also liked going to places like bapcsalesCanada because I could actually make use of the information, so I'm looking forward to that as well.
It's also nice to have some influence over where my data is stored and the laws around it.

If you think a category should / should not be in this list, let us know. There are so many amazing communities, but we also don't want this list to feel overwhelming.
