I've always felt being on the fediverse was antithetical to Beehaw's mission. It wants to bee a kind, safe place for disenfranchised users, but it feels like less of a tight knit community when it is federated.

The best example I can think of is like a high-school club/group. Being on the fediverse is like your group claiming a table in a crowded lunch room. Yes you've got your group together where you can talk amongst yourselves, but everything you say can be heard by everyone else in the room and likewise their conversations are going to butt in whether you like it or not. An unfederated or semi-private forum is more like getting an unused classroom for your group to meet in. It's still open for anyone to join as long as they don't create trouble, but having your own room makes the conversation feel more personal/intimate and people are more likely to open up about personal stuff they wouldn't want to yell out in the lunch room.

Probably a poor analogy, and I may be misunderstanding their goal, but that's my 2 cents.

You could, but that doesn't help on other instances. Blocking them at the personal Blocklist level silences them everywhere.

Also a tool let's people choose if they want to use it or not. Defederation is a choice made for them.

But you're good with Lemmy, why not build a tool that parses their user list and then adds them all to one's personal Blocklist? That would be far more effective and I'm sure more than a few people would appreciate it.

In most US cities, that would be illegal. Lamp posts are owned by either the city or the local utility company. I only know because I looked it up and complained to to the city until they went around and removed all the 'JESUS SAVES' and 'FEAR GOD OBEY' signs that some nutter put up.

Hopefully lemmy will roll out blocking by instance and that will solve a lot of people's issues calling for defederation.

The OG Siracha doesn't exist after their split with underwood. It doesn't taste the same, it's purely name recognition at this point. The upside is there is a lot more people making siracha-like sauces now, https://thaiandtrue.com/products/sarachee-hot-sauce has been my favorite so far.
