  • Exactly. ML had real limitations which lead to the development of Trotskyism (I'm interpreting this widely to include Hal Draper and his "Socialism from below" as well as Movementism in general) and Maoism (also interpreting this widely) as critiques of the Soviet Union. The past 50 years have shown that Maoism is by far the superior line of revolutionary theory. It's also not a coincidence that Mao influenced Galula, the French theorist of counter-insurgency warfare. The value of Mao as a theorist of revolutionary warfare in the paradigm of insurgency and counterinsurgency cannot be understated.

I highly recommend J Moufawad Paul's writings on Maoism as the latest encapsulation of revolutionary theory. Super cogent and non-revisionist without being dogmatic. https://marxandphilosophy.org.uk/reviews/8221_continuity-and-rupture-review-by-hamayon-rastgar/

  • lmao the chapo hosts have nothing remotely like a unifying ideology. Matt is the most history-minded and so would probably align more closely with with true anon than the rest of the chapos. Felix and Virgil never make any ideological commitments so it's impossible to tell what they really think outside of quirky social commentary. Will is an effective media critic but has no confidence outside of his wheel house of mocking neocons as the inhuman monsters they are. Amber is a social democrat who seems intent on reliving the calamity of the second international.

  • "Socialism for the rich" perpetuates the idea that socialism is when the government does stuff. We need to get back to the original meaning of socialism which, even before Marx's scientific socialism, was the idea of a society governed for the benefit of society itself, rather than for a privileged class like the royal family, the aristocracy or the bourgeoisie.
