Has anyone else noticed how prevalent Hexbear posters have suddenly become? Maybe sometime last week I noticed nearly every political post had at least one long thread of Hexbear users that do nothing but repeat CCP talking points while waving anyway anything even remotely reliable as Western propaganda. That or getting all excited about trolled libs. The way they tell it, you'd think everything from DW, to Fox, to Propublica, to straight up AP News articles, are all written by the same people.

Not to mention, their info on the Fediverse observer is either straight up wrong or there's some serious botting going on. According to that, the instance is less than a month old, yet somehow they already have one of the largest, most active userbases, along with far and away the most comments of any instance.

Seems to me like Lemmygrad on steroids. Considering we defederated from them, seems like a no-brainer to block Hexbear as well.

So glad this thread could become such a perfect microcosm of why we need to defederate.

You aren't a "side" you're a small group of angry, useful idiots and bots. If you want to talk about genocide, let's talk about the current genocide the CCP is carrying out.

"Let's talk about the current genocide the CCP is carrying out"

"Here's a source from western-aligned organizations disputing this"

        "I'm not reading this"

        Liberalism in a nutshell

presented with a discussion about the topic, largely backed by western sources

I'm not going to argue with you about Xijiang because I'm not as educated as some of my comrades on the subject, you're wrong about it, but whatever

      But this...

      bots

For the fucking 1000th time since federation why would anyone bot this tiny ass site. Why would it be a useful investment for China or Russia to do this Please actually go to our instance and look at our post histories. In mine I have a rant talking about weird shit that happened in an American Pie movie. We're just normal people with views on geopolitics you aren't used to. None of us are bots. Its pure liberal solipism to write off anyone who counters the prevailing liberal narrative on geopolitics of being bots.

      useful idiots

Its so fucking rich having liberals who live IN THE WEST and are useful idiots for western propaganda call us this. Think about it logically for a second, who is more likely to be a useful idiot? The person living in the west and saying the shit the western media tells them to say about bad evil enemy countries when they have been PROVEN to be lying about bad evil enemy countries before (Iraq, Vietnam, Korea) or the guy going against the prevailing narrative in his country? Hmm?

      You aren't a "side"

We are the far left of the political spectrum, and we're only a small insignificant group if you only count white westerners.

I don't know what I'm talking about but you're definitely wrong about it.

Great way to start your comment, so far 0/10.

Nobody would bother making bots on Lemmy

Do you think it's hard to make a bot? I suspect it's WAY easier here because at least the awful corporate sites have experience removing fake accounts.

I'm not a liberal, you're just throwing generalizations at a straw man you made. And the rest of your post is just more generalization, like assuming my sex, nationality, and ability to think critically.

If you're actually not a bot, pull your head out of your ass.

No investigation no right to speak. I haven't researched the Xijiang issue well enough to comment well on it, so I won't. Someone else can take up that cause if they want. But I HAVE researched it enough to know where the truth lies, I just would be bad at arguing the point. Admitting that isn't a weakness and doesn't make me look bad. Its literally a good thing. You put it out there, so I kind of have to acknowledge it or you would have used THAT to imply my weakness as well.

It doesnt matter if its hard to make a bot. It matters if its worth doing. Why would any country think changing hearts and minds of foreigners on Lemmy is worth their time? Its pure arrogance to think you're worth a foreign governments time and energy.

          I'm not a liberal

You can insist this all you want, but your positions on geopolitics align with the liberal hegemonistic order. You are at best a radlib who thinks they're a socialist for supporting universal healthcare or something. IE, someone who wants a bigger piece of the plundering of the global South and doesn't care about their plight. Your positions on geopolitics are liberal ones, whether you consider yourself one or not.

          assuming my sex

Sorry for saying guy, though if you ARE a guy and just doing this as a gotcha anyway you're an asshole.

          nationality

I really doubt you dont live in the west. This one I have to assume is a bullshit attempt at a gotcha. "How do you KNOW I'm a westerner" is debate lord shit if you actually are a westerner. If you arent, well the useful idiot label still applies.

          ability to think critically.

You did this to me too lol????

Why would any country think changing hearts and minds of foreigners on Lemmy is worth their time?

Why would the CCP want to undermine their biggest geopolitical enemy? You don't think they'd want to do this???

your positions on geopolitics align with the liberal hegemonistic order.

You very obviously don't know my positions on geopolitics and I'm done with this sad strawman debate since you've got nothing else.

      bots

Ah yes, bots who've mostly spent one or more years just talking entirely insularly with each other about things of interest, and just random general stuff, like my account literally has pictures of me on it, and just discussions about questioning my gender or books I've been reading recently or films I like as well as like political discussion. This isn't even my first account, I've had like 2 or 3 previous ones that a forgot the password to and so just made a new one because I could never be bothered to use a password manager. And the vast majority of users from here I recognise from seeing posting in threads about their mental health, or memes, or the weekly queer discussion thread we have, or getting into dumb struggle sessions about inane shit like little libraries or outdoor cats or stacking rocks (don't ask)

Also I'm in discords with like several dozen of them and mutuals on mastodon with dozens and dozens more. point is, we're all real, we just all post and have basically no lurkers so we have a disproportionate level of influence on Lemmy.
