    you can always view the external image by clicking the little docment shaped View Source button and copying the url

      This is the canonical usecase for the rainbow-colored fediverse button (view on original instance) .

      The icon is confusing and there is no mouse-over text, but that's what it does and why it's there.

        well not exactly this but yes, if you want to view or link to the comment on its original instance, that'll do that, and it is probably the simpler option here. I just don't like loading up other instances, idk, copying the image URL seems better to my messed up brain
