I was thinking about how 16 year olds in England are full adults, the idea that teens can decide their own medical care and move out without parental consent sounds amazing and could have honestly saved the lives of some kids I went to high school with. letting 16 teen year olds vote too makes sense since the obviously have a stake in the future more so than older people I would say. On the other hand the idea of 16 year olds binge drinking and being with older adults, and god forbid getting married to adults turns my stomach. I know we have some users from England so I am curious to hear your thoughts. I guess my instinct is to stagger everything at the appropriate ages. honestly sometimes i think 18 is too young to get married lol.
ive never googled something faster. gosh, they are really different over there. yeah british people ive talked to irl says something similar, that its not big deal. just feels so wrong as a gut instinct, but im sure thats just bias talking. thanks for the perspective!
Brit here, I had my first beer when I was 9 lol. But I'm pretty sure I tasted beer before that, there's a photo of me as a baby where my grandmas is pretending (hopefully!) to be giving me a sip of beer.
I understand how this could lead to a healthier relationship with alcohol, maybe avoid binge drinking like Americans do (not sure what drinking culture is like over there but its very toxic here.)
It can be pretty bad in the UK too TBH.
thats good to know. cute grandma story btw

i was doing some googling on binge drinking in England.. and ARE YALL OK? Studies have shown that more than 40% of University students in the UK are classified as hazardous drinkers and 10% are alcohol dependent. In the US, this percentage is somewhat lower: only 26% of students aged 18 or older confessed to engaging in binge drinking in the past month....... According to the latest statistics, the UK is in the lead, with a 12% alcohol disorder rate, followed by 8% in the US. In comparison, the global average is 4.9%, which calls for urgent measures.
Its probably healthier to drink a can of beer than a can of coke. And i say this as someone that loves coke and does not drink alcohol.
But arent kids suposed to love cod flavored beer?
