Why does the media love the alarmist crime narratives? Is it just that it gets the most viewers tuned in?

Yeah, my two remaining local news stations are owned by Sinclair and Hubbard Broadcasting. Real journalism doesn't really exist anymore.

It's propaganda pushed out by the capitalist class, so it has to focus on othering some group of society else the common folk realize they need to start killing the vampires.

because by focusing on the cruelty and shock value of individual heinous crimes, and subsequently interviewing frothing fascists who are desperate to dish out lynch mob style vigilante violence to "disturbers of the peace" and "destroyers of the community," bourgeois media can reproduce the visceral reactionary tendency of looking at crime as something to be "solved" by the implementation of more slave colonies (prisons) and harsher methods of punishment (torture and death penalty) rather than something to be solved by eliminating the root causes of crime, which are poverty, addiction, lack of physical and mental health care, lack of food, clean water, shelter, etc..
