People often talk about weird race essentialism in fantasy media. Orcs, gnolls, trolls, pick an evil fantasy race. There is a book or show where the goody two shoes heros kill countless of them. In this that we have a protagonist who is clearly suffering with PTSD and a broken man this seems more honest about it. I am not saying they do it well.
