i can't remember what exactly i was reading about the other day, but the general topic of partisan activity in eastern/central europe during Generalplan Ost. what occurred to me was just how absolutely stupid and shortsighted the reactionary "nationalists" were in allying themselves with the nazis. the nazis were there to literally exterminate everyone and make way for settlement, but everywhere they went, a minority of absolute shitheads would pop up and offer assistance. poles eager to kill jews, ukrainians eager to kill poles, and on and on across every nationality and ethnic group, all of them somehow convinced that their ethnic group would be spared in the grand plan for mass extermination.
i can't grasp the unique blend of opportunism and stupidity that tries to triangulate like this, because it is so obviously a tactic to divide and conquer.
