Ooh ooh and don't forget the part about how dismissing it they are (in their minds) absolved them from needing to learn about it.

That's the real crime. Just kinda plugging your ears and saying "All Violence Is Bad!" so you can perch on this naive moral high ground. Gormlessly consuming whatever narrative the cable news media puts out and treating this whole conflict like a football game between two teams you don't care about.

At the same time, folks who are jerking themselves off on the latest intifada or heavily investing themselves in the martyred Israeli narrative aren't doing anyone any favors. They've also decided to treat this horror show like a team sport, vicariously participating in a war on the other side of the planet without every living through a minute of it.

Anyone who is witnessing the bombings or the shootings or the kidnappings or any of the other assorted forms of desperate guerrilla violence and the genocidal response and thinking "Cool! I love this!" is a sick fucking freak. Nobody is winning in this conflict. Nobody is coming out of it better than when they started. This is an absolute worst-case scenario for any struggling society. It is a tragedy in every sense and from any perspective. It is a fundamental failure of every social institution.
