Eh young people definitely do watch at least some highlights of debates. I was in high school during the 2020 debates (we had hybrid learning after some point in lockdown so almost half the school was in person), and my teacher had to shush several kids in our physics class because they kept talking and laughing about it
Similar experience during the dem debates, all my friends and everyone in my classes seemed to be clowning on Biden and Buttigieg and rooting for Bernie (my asshole history teacher even called a couple girls in our class naive socialists for saying they liked Bernie)
