    This feels like what could be a decent recipe and runs it through the processor of your average lmayo conception of FaMiLy ReCiPe™ that rears its ugly head this time of year. That bottleneck of post WWII consumerism really messed with our conception of what is and isn't a culinary tradition.

      The convenience factor fucked up a lot of it too. Homemade béchamel sauces got replaced with chunking a can of condensed cream soup and some milk in the pot.

        TBF cream soup casseroles can work for some stuff but it's firmly in the realm of "weeknight, want to make something easy to put on rice/egg noodles". That shit should be well away from a Thanksgiving meal though.
