Been trying to unmask for half a year+ now and it's difficult, numbingly depressing, and extremely damaging to my reputation (in places that do matter, not just pointless social status standing)

    I think you're missing the point. Thy OP doesn't mean covid masking. For sometime who lives with a immunocompromised person, a big f u for literal unmasking, comrade.

        You're in a neurodiverse comm. "Masking" is what autistic people do to socially pass as neurotypical. Since it's not a natural passive behavior but instead a learned, active one, it can be exhausting and lead to alienation with those one interacts with because the autistic person feels they're presenting a false self to the world.
