Like no shit ever since MGS finally died I've just been tired of dude and his cryptic bamboozling-assed releases. Half the reason I never fucked with Death Stranding in the first place was because I couldn't tell what it was supposed to be and was still(in fairness, am still) absolutely heartbroken over PT's cancellation.
The marketing for it was cryptic as fuck, and as a game it's pretty niche.
To me the game read as a piece about his firing from Konami and learning to re-form bonds with those around him in the industry and his fans to create something new. The themes of fatherhood, isolation, and reaching out to form connections hit me at the right time in my life to make it work for me, but I can totally see how this 60 hour game about walking with 7 hours of cutscenes will miss a lot of people.
How are you feeling about that OD game that got announced?

I'm trying to be charitable about it? Like, just like Death Stranding, I can't tell what it's supposed to be from what we were shown and I'm still quite nettled they gave Kojima fifteen minutes of talking nothingburger at TGA, but I can feel where Peele's work was involved. The advert we were shown has a lot of Get Out, Us type energy somehow, and that's more what's buoying my intrigue. Hopefully with Peele on board, it's more art piece than auteur circlejerk.
I'm also cautiously optimistic. There's definitely worse Hollywood directors that he could be collaborating with. Peele's movies all show that he's willing to do interesting things in the genre-fiction space.
Death Stranding was a game about delivering packages in a pretty landscape while Hideo Kojima emails you about his lore and shares his playlist with you and shows you all his favorite celebrities
I mean the dude has always wanted to make movies so this is the next step.
Listen, I've played MGS4. He's already made movies
I hope he does so! Far away from here!
