Dude’s being really defensive even though he’s criticized artists in the past for being right wing. It’s times like this I’m reminded that he’s been on multiple v*ush streams too.

I just think jpegmafia has earned enough cred to attempt an explanation. I'm not saying he just gets a pass because I like his music. He shit on Kanye in his music recently, so while this is very wtf to me, I'd still like to hear the explanation before writing off his stuff forever because of one photograph. If the explanation is "oh, I know Kanye is a Nazi, I just think his music is cool" then you won't see me defending anyone.

I don’t think anyone can earn plausible deniability for participating in the normalization of nazi rhetoric. You simply are or you aren’t, there should be 0 tolerance for associating with nazis.

Kanye is wearing the shirt of a nazi band Peggy literally has a song attacking lol he knows this is a violation of his principles.

This is opportunistic for his career no matter how you slice it, Kanye should be shamed for his normalization of nazi shit as all nazis should, and Peggy should be for associating with it whether he’s involved with vultures or if this is just a photo

I'm not trying to say that's wrong in any way, just that I don't have a material attachment so I want to see some form of explanation to decide whether I listen to Peggy's work again. Since it's not like he's a member of a political movement with material consequences, it just seems online to me to suggest my behavior of wanting to hear an explanation is inappropriate. If the explanation is much outside of "lol look at this pic I got with Kanye, he doesn't know I hate him" then I think there's no salvaging it. It just doesn't make sense to me to fully condemn or acquit someone who has expressed opposite views repeatedly without further information.

That’s fair but tbh he’s had plenty of time to address and regardless of whether he’s the member of a movement or not I still think it’s wrong to post photos with someone whos been engaging with nazi shit for awhile. If it were just a shitty garden variety republican or something I’d say fair dues, but it’s Kanye, Nick Fuentes’s bff in a burzum shirt, west. Nazis should be deplatformed always

Yeah, regardless of what comes out of it, it's very disappointing. Its absolutely bad one way or another. I mean Christ, Kanye is on tape getting shushed by Alex Jones for proclaiming how much he loves Hitler, I sure wouldn't want a picture with him. I imagine the reason for this in Peggy's head is that Kanye is a big musical influence. But that doesn't make Kanye pass the smell test any better. And Peggy isn't an actual communist like Boots Riley, so I'm thinking the bad optics didn't matter, which is shit because as you said, hanging out with Nazis makes you a Nazi.

Yeah exactly this, you couldn’t waterboard that pic out of me lol.

Kanye’s early albums are huge influences on me too but that shit is dead to me. Can’t even engage with it without remembering that jones interview.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is that I don't expect these guys like jpegmafia or melonboy to be politically or socially principled because they're not materially or meaningfully engaged with political activity to begin with. I can't hear Kanye without thinking of that interview, and I can't hear rtj without thinking about bank owning landlord killer Mike.

Melonboy to a lesser extent but Peggy tries to posture as a leftist and anti nazi and I think they’re not above criticism. especially wrt to fascists. If america wasn’t head to toe nazi sympathizers and took a 0 tolerance policy to its normalization on the internet 20 years ago shit would be a lot better, and I don’t think ceding ground to them just bc there’s not a party structure in place that these guys are adherent to is a good idea. I’m not demanding Peggy be a perfect communist I just think drawing the lines at A Nazi is more than acceptable

i would have considerably less patience if it were a "garden variety republican." a liberal with power is way more dangerous than a mentally ill nazi with some shitty records.

I meant like… a rapper with dumb republican esque views not a politician. And I honestly disagree, you may not think much of Kanye but he’s a immensely influential figure to a large part of American culture(who are crucially politically illiterate by design) and his making nazi shit out to not be a big deal has a large possible of being really damaging wrt to people thinking of it as just another pov.

We’re already losing the battle on nazi platforming and I’ve seen people carrying water for his ass and his views already both in my professional career in the industry and online. 10 years ago you could say gamergate was just some dumb online shit but it went on to normalize and propagate a lot of reactionary shit and ideologues were still dealing with today

Hate to tell you this, but Kanye meat riders have been psudeointellectual reactionaries since forever. They’ve always believed he was some persecuted messiah for speaking The Truth who’s being hunted by the deep state. His fans did QAnon before QAnon. People thinking his reactionary views are just different perspectives isn’t new. He really is just a black Trump lol

Eh he definitely has his core Stan’s that are that way, but generally speaking plenty of people who don’t worship the ground he walks on also respect him in a normal way which is most people I’ve known in my life. I think you’re overly emphasizing the redditor kind of fan he has but that’s like focusing on Twitter for a representation of americas politics. The black trump shit is also relatively recent so even if a contingent of his fans were reactionary they weren’t carrying water for overt fascists until this shit, so it’s getting worse and should be resisted by people who purport to give a shit

I don’t really know what more explanation there could be. He makes music, but probably not a lot of money, he would like to make more money and this seems like the most direct way to get it.
