From a purely theoretical standpoint if I were a journalist seeking a surprise interview I think airports are a no go for theoretical journalists due to private gates and transition from plane to car privately. It's probably much better off working out what destination someone has after the airport and catching them in the transition from car to building at that destination, assuming the destination doesn't have a built-in underground parking garage. That or figuring out what hotel chain someone likes as everyone goes through the lobby at some point or another.
