Kinda sad to think about, the internet as we know it is sorta on life support. We’re like steps away from blending our personal life with our work life. Shit’s terrifying

I’m probably just talking consequences of enshitification. But it’s so wild that it’ll get worse agony-shivering

Hasn't that been the case for like at least 5 years now?

But it’s so wild that it’ll get worse

We are currently hurtling towards collapse and a major restructiring of global power and well as ecological destruction. I think the internet will be the least of our worries as it probably will physically struggle to even function in a decade for multple reasons

totally agree, and still sad about it - I will miss having humanity's knowledge at my fingertips

I wonder how feasible it would be to backup the internet archive onto a laptop to keep for after the collapse. I know all of wikipedia (text only no images) is only like 40 gb.

Edit: from the about page for internet archive:

A single copy of the Internet Archive library collection occupies 145+ Petabytes of server space

Guess we arent saving much of that :/

the year is 2050, currently spelunking into old cities looking for hard drives with PDFs of pre-collapse human knowledge on them. Haven't found an unencrypted drive that would start in over a month.

This principle is one I think people in my industry don’t understand lol

That’s actually a super great perspective that shows how fucking privileged I am. I know a lot of leftists talk about the effects of economic collapse the way economists try to predict economic collapses ya ya but it’s going to be one of those things that hits suddenly and hits hard.

Though it is very possible it’s held off in my lifetime and we continue to maintain the boom bust cycle with far fewer booms. Also, I think there are going to be industries designed to keep the internet on life support. It’s almost completely invaluable at this point considering how the world is so connected

I know its shitty and naive, but I cant help but feel a little bit excited by this prospect.
