Future of fluoridated water once again on Rutland's Town Meeting Day ballot

Rutland has been fluoridating its water for decades. The last time it was on the ballot, in 2016, voters chose to keep the fluoride in. But concerned residents have another opportunity to vote on the topic in March.

Rutland resident Jack Crowther has been a longtime critic.

“You’re putting a drug, a medicine, in our water to treat tooth decay without the informed consent of the people,” Crowther said.

Also related, a Richmond, VT waterworks employee secretly lowered fluoride levels in the town's drinking supply for a decade.

EDIT: I should've updated this a month ago, but the town voted to keep fluoride.

    That creates hundreds of millions of waste packets every year surely.

    It might be wasteful, but it's probably not more wasteful than packaging and shipping all these packets.

    It's banned in almost every country other than the US for a reason.

    I can't find anything to suggest this is true.

      Also like, if you're homeless or something you're probably not getting your toothpaste in the mail or however and there aren't many places to brush or a way to keep a clean tooth brush. So some fluoride in the tap water really does help there.

            They mostly drink bottled water. Where the fuck are they getting access to drinkable tap water? And yes, lots of homeless people do die from dehydration.

            Everyone knows that when you're homeless the city makes sure to install running water in your tent. It's not like access to safe water to drink/bathe with is one biggest issues of being homeless or anything.

              Already told you. Public washrooms and the fact that any establishment that serves food legally has to give you water. Go to McDonald's and ask for tap water. I am friends with homeless peole and have been homeless, you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.
