I've only seen the 1995 movie. Is Stand Alone Complex good?

14 episodes in, very much so! i'll just copy what i wrote earlier

so far it holds up well! some mildly janky bits of early 2000s digipaint and cg aside it's a gorgeous show, and the show seems very aware of how fucked up the cops are. only real issue politics-wise is that the individual cops we follow mostly have good intentions, but even within that they never really manage to do anything beyond kill or ruin the lives of people who sometimes deserve it and sometimes don't. very melancholy show. much more of a cop show than the movie, it's a procedural about them solving some cyberpunk crime of the week but it hits the same thematic material in this format and is very good at it

also the major is a transgender lesbian

in that she is in a relationship with 2 women, and is shown to be VERY attached to her very fem presentation. when batou asks why she's in a smaller woman's body she punches him in the face and when we see her online avatar it looks identical to her robot body (which we know she could choose to look any way she wants) so we know she chose the way she looks and is very invested in the way she looks, while she really doesn't like talking about her life before she got her robot body as a child
