    At protest they're usually there to help organize kettling and other such big police movements, rather than protecting the protesters. Spotting is the majority of their job.

      Word. A sniper's job is to gather intelligence and perform recon. Modern snipers aren't the front-line snipers of the Red Army during the War. Yes, they've got a rifle, but attached to that rifle is a really, really big telescope.

      I've mostly seen them use choppers for kettling, not snipers.

      But I guess it maybe depends on terrain and movement.
