EDIT: As far as I'm aware, the government accused him of having killed 10,000 people and having given viagra to African mercenaries to rape people (nothing we all find more terrifying than black people apparently; because 60's racism is trendy again). When I first mentioned some of this stuff, he was hesitant to believe it so we googled it, and every one of the things on the list was coming up true; A Somali colleague of ours even confirmed the point number 12 about every Libyan citizen receiving straight to their bank a portion of every oil sale. Oh, and the last point? About the great man made river project to make water readily available throughout the desert country? NATO bombed it; there were civilians taking shelter around the (pipes?) who were killed in the bombings, and a (Libyan?) journalist confirmed this saying he was personally among the people pulling dead children out of the wreckage.
