Maximalist late 90s early 00s design was so cool. I hate how everything now is minimal or pastel. I want garish and hideous because it actually makes me feel something.
The LCD panels on these things were art. The animations and colours unmatched. Turning one on felt like turning on a serious bit of machine that went beep boop. Tech doesn't make me think that of it anymore just silent boxes of disappointment
I live with this vibe. The wiring in my car isn't... great. So my car radio still has the in store Fast and Furious style sales animation that cycles between cars racing on a overpass with a traffic light or something (?) and like 5 frames of someone kicking a soccer ball into a goal. All on like a 360 x 160 all blue pixel display. And it plays constantly while I drive!
