Trump just didn't have enough allies to avoid basically his version of the Clinton sex scandal, which was itself a bit orchestrated for leverage. Read the whole story about how that was revealed to the press - very strange. But Trump's already played out in public years ago, if they didn't care that he solicits escorts and has bad dick I don't think they care that he did something illegal to pay them off.
