Yeah what bothers me even more is when I talk to people about this stuff (usually my boomer parents because they supported the war and because I live with them) they literally tell me to just stop reading the news

Ok so if something bothers me because it’s fucked up and completely unjust I should just close my eyes and cover my ears and go la la la and it will go away

Ive had multiple people tell me things like “this world is a bad place. I can’t do anything about it so i’m not going to worry about it and focus on the good.” It’s an understandable stance to keep yourself sane, but it becomes obnoxious to point of me wanting to puncture their eyes with my thumbs when they become smug about it or confused why anyone would care about something. Of course, their idea of not caring is constantly butting in and offering their unsolicited takes and advice on the world and then become offended when you stare at them.

The people I interact with, they’re competent technically. They go out of their way to read and learn shit to do their jobs better lol. But when they explicitly tell me they don’t know some shit about a current event or historical event, I provide them with resources and the shit that comes out their mouths never change. Not even a “I read what you gave me and thought it was bullshit” - they quite literally never touch it at all. All the more proof that they don’t actually care about the shit they complain about, or that it’s pretty clear what side they’re on but too much of a coward to state it.

Yeah for sure, met people like that often as well but honestly I just kinda am a coward and really don’t want to be a soldier and get shot at or shoot at people. I wouldn’t mind helping the army I guess (and I think I have) but honestly I just hate war it depresses the living hell out of me and it pisses me off that so many people say they hate war and then simp for it in some weird way. All I can say is I live in Europe and Ukraine is literally just a bus ride away. If so many people fucking cared about democracy and freedom and all that fucking bullshit they’d get on the fucking bus and fight for it. At least the Russians aren’t forcing people to fight they’re just paying them to. I still feel bad for those guys as well if we lived in a world that was slightly sane none of this would be happening.

It’s horrible because I KNEW how this Ukraine war bullshit would fucking go anyways I’m so fucking exhausted.

We all have a plan until the first punch. Whether I’m cowardly or “cowardly” depends on who and what I’m expected to fight for. If we lived in a communist nation, fighting to defend our comrades from extinction as the Soviets, Vietnamese, Spanish, Chinese, etc. were, and I dodged a draft, I would be rightfully called a coward. If I can’t do anything else to contribute to the war effort except pick up a gun and buy time for those who can, I would have my shit rocked by other citizens and soldiers if I dodged and I would say I deserve it.

But not everyone in Ukraine is pro government and/or pro west. Ukraine was one of the lowest countries in the west’s democracy indexes until a couple years ago. I can’t imagine every man, especially the older ones who got to enjoy the industries of the Soviet Union, being happy about fighting for a nation that is so corrupt and abandoned them. Dodging a draft in this instance is “cowardly” because you refuse to sacrifice your life for the vultures and capitalists, but to me, that’s nothing more than self defense. And it’s also simply transactional - why should I give the ultimate sacrifice when you have done nothing for me?

Dude I literally don’t want to pick up a gun even in a communist country…there are a lot of ways to fight though I guess 🤷‍♂️

Well I’m just referring to the label of cowardice and how it’s relative. But your point doesn’t conflict with mine. If you do contribute to the war effort in other ways besides fighting, most people won’t exactly be against it. But in this case, there are people who contribute neither combat nor support, and this is what brings people’s ire. But in the case with the Ukrainians dodging the draft and refusing to support their soldiers, they have good reason not to.

This war is fucking stupid and has been since day 1. At this point it's just a money printer for weapons contractors. The sooner it comes to an end the better for everyone, dodging the draft is not only intelligent it is praxis.
