So are we living in a repeat of Weimar Germany at this point? President asleep at the wheel. Fascism at the door. Brownshirts in the streets beating up LGBTQ and pro-Palestine supporters? And now the court is laying down the framework to give the prez unlimited power?
This all feels like a blurb kids would be reading in a school book in Star Trek in the lead up to World War 3.
No because there is no left. There is very little for fash to react to that is tangible, they only have punching down against marginalized identities. In reality, it's just fascistic liberals and liberal fascists lost in a milieu of false consciousness about why they're getting paid worse and everything is more expensive and it must be the fault of [broad brush identity]. Both of these factions already have power. They're cops, lawyers, judges, politicians, business owners, military contractor workers, etc.
These will be the interesting times people talk about. Awareness of actual material decay is ascendant. There will be more and more opportunities for us to grow the left. At the same time, those groups in power will like nothing more than a left scapegoat.
I recommend that everyone join an org and begin learning organizing skills and opsec.
