Seems like the best science youtuber also has good Star Trek opinions
I continue to insist that most of the nu-trek series are good, actually. The bad ones are just so bad, and so much more talked about, that they drown out the good.
Oh yea, I did watch a couple seasons and was surprised by how decent it was. Still has a few MacFarlane-isms but it's got the spirit. The Moclan child arc was actually really impressive aside from a couple lib bits.
That actor was amazing, including in his human-imitation moments and his painfully brief emotional experience. The "make Claire break up with him" slob attempt was one of the funniest moments of the show.
The Orville gets a lot of mileage out of the Union's medical science being even more advanced than the Federation's. Like the early episode where Isaac cut Gordon's leg off as part of a prank war and the easy answer was to just grow him a new one which took a day or two.
All the wacky Moclan traditions were very fun except for the ones that were extremely not fun.

I did enjoy Strange New Worlds overall.
I did too and SNW is the weakest of the four good nu-Treks
SNW, LD, Prodigy(?) and...? I must know, I've been disconnected from trek for a while now.
The Orville. It's a good and legitimately Star Trek show.
Once The Orville shed "Family Guy in space" gimmicks a few episodes in, it got good enough to be considered Trek.
I swear those were just to sneak it past the execs
I can believe that.

The Moclan child arc in season 3 is some of the best Trek of all time tbh
The Battle of Dollyworld was amazing, soundtrack and all.
oh yeah I should resume that.. only watched a few eps and I heard it gets real good later
It's so worth sticking around.
Unlike a lot of P R E S T I G E T V garbage, it actually ends in a satisfying way too.
I love the political realignment in the ending
(end of Orville spoilers)

"How many guests for the wedding? Should we send the entire armada?"
"That would be appropriate."
That scene was peak. Isaac is the best.

He has some of the funniest scenes and also some of the most sincere and heartfelt. Like when he

volunteered to do Topa's trans surgery against Union orders then calmly but forcefully stopped Klyden from interfering.
Speaking of Moclans... my wife was always bothered by this moment but I can't stop cracking a sicko smile about it.

The life support system was by and large in the ship's interior walls; it was a sort of vegetation construct everywhere.
That's super cool biotech and I loved that bit of background lore.
It really does.
Please don't be "Picard was actually good in season 3 if you get used to the member berries"
Absolutely not.
May as well tell me your list in order of preference, then.
The four good current era Trek series, in descending order of preference:
1: Lower Decks
2: The Orville
3: Prodigy
4: Strange New Worlds
Including the Orville in that list was a plot twist... one I don't disagree with.
I actually agree with your list even though I haven't seen much Prodigy yet.
I am absolutely uncompromising on the point that The Orville is a legitimate Star Trek show
By Grabthar's Hammer, I tend to put Galaxy Quest on my list of favorite Trek movies too.
btw any thoughts about Andromeda? I watched a few eps of S1, seemed all right, heard it goes downhill after S1 though
I haven't seen any Andromeda for like decades and it's all a blur for me, though Babylon 5 was impressive.
It's been a pretty long time since I saw it but I thought it was fun even though it was bad
I'm not entirely convinced of that one but it has been a while since I saw Galaxy Quest
The worst thing about it is the Home Improvement chud, but otherwise it's still a good time in spite of him.
Maybe I'll give it another shot
It's almost like Lower Decks: The Movie put through an early season Orville filter to me.
Orville is still better, but still.
Oh yeah?
