A U.S.-based watchdog group on Friday called out what it described as the "profiteering approach" taken by one of the only companies in the world with an approved vaccine for mpox, an infectious disease whose rapid spread in the Democratic Republic of Congo prompted the World Health Organization to declare a global emergency earlier this month.
This is going to slowly spread everywhere because the west is hoarding vaccines and won't create a vaccination effort in Africa / DRC. It has already become more virulent with this new clade and will in all likelihood take another step function up in contagiousness based on how it's spreading in DRC alone. Once it becomes slightly more infectious (like improved spreading via surfaces), all bets are off on not closing at least some schools in the US - good luck getting elementary kids to not touch each other and trusting parents to take time off in this shitty forced-work economy to have the kids sick at home.
