Yeah, Mormons in the early days were very explicitly a full cult. Brigham Young tried to declare war on the US federal government to try to claim Utah as a Mormon state. The mainstream Mormon church was full fundie until around 1900 or so. Not saying they're not a cult now, but the levels of bad aren't even comparable. The original Mormonism was a white ethnostate sex cult that tried to separate all their followers from the knowledge of the rest of the nation by changing languages
