From what I understand, due to the war in Ukraine we are actually currently in a medical helium shortage, it's like 4-5x the cost that it was a few years ago. I think that one release would probably cost the facility something like $50000 to replace
Not Ukraine, but Russia. The 4 main producers are US federal reserve (us gov not allowed to mine more and must sell reserves), Russia, Qatar, and Algeria. The shortage has been going on for over a decade at this point, but it still isn't "economical" for us businesses to increase helium production yet.
