I saw this video: https://youtu.be/Kx4G2Z1eI-o?si=0u-LXDhOqvSktnAJ by badempanada and it was just him bashing his shit while he obviously hadn't read or interacted with his works in any meaningful way. Why do people hate him so much, even on the left, and are there any valid criticisms of him?

    I don't hate him. To be generous, you could say his stance wrt the Soviet Union rhetorically useful. I do think there are other historians sympathetic to the Soviet Union that are more rigorous than him, Moshe Lewin or Domenico Losurdo for instance.
