Disclaimer: check your local laws for legality of THC-A farm bill hemp products
So I've been doing this for years now and the results are great. it can save you significant money if you find the raw materials on sale. just keep an eye on the various hemp extract companies around this time of the year. most of the "black friday" sales are winding down or over but xmas should start up soon. also many also have point systems that can result in discounts as high as $100 after a few purchases
- badder/bho-alike/shatter: use thca isolate powder. often as low as 15/gram. add cbd or cbd-a, up to 30-40%, if desired. preferably, use CDTs (cannabis derived terpenes). these are pricey, around 20-25 a ml, but a single ml can be used to make up to 10 g of concentrate (at around 10%) (use 0.1 ml per gram)
-
combine and heat using hot plate or oven set to about 180F, about 10 mins.
-
stir until creamy or desired texture.
-
add CDT towards the end to prevent boil off. allow to cure/steep for as long as possible. store sealed and refrigerated.
cost to make (without discounts): around 18-20 a gram, less if higher CBD
- crumble/wax: use thca diamond. tends to cost a bit more, can be found for 20/gram. can also add cbd or cbd-a. more for a drier, crunchier texture. use slightly less CDT, around 5% (about 0.05 ml per gram)
-
break down the crystals either to a chunky or sugary texture, using mortal and pestle or folded up in wax paper.
-
warm up just like the shatter, no more then 170F, and add any CBD. the crystals should melt a bit, allowing easier blending, but will recrystallize.
-
add CDT as it cools and mix as well as possible. you can press the results to make a more waxy composition or just stir it and fluff for a more crumble-like concentrate
cost to make (without discounts): around 20-24 a gram
- HHC or delta-8 shatter/oil: use distillate. often very inexpensive, 5-8/gram. add CBD for a thicker texture. 5-10% CDT recommended.
more gooey and difficult to handle, this is more ideal to make vape juice by mixing it with about 30-40% propylene glycol until thin enough to run and pour
- warm up distillate on hot plate or oven at around 170 F. simply melt CBD into it and add terpenes at the end!
- allow to steep as long as you like.
cost to make (without discounts): around 10 a gram
you can also use botanical terpenes or blended cannabis-botanical terpenes to save money. results might not be as flavorful.
Tips I thought about later: You can use CBD as basically your "flour" to make your concentrate less sticky/gooey if you aren't pleased with the end, cooled result. Add it in slowly, allow to melt, and check consistency. cbd of higher then 50% won't hurt things as it adds an entourage effect on it's own. if you already added terpenes try to heat it as gently as possible
