The author is super sus, their youtube videos like to include drive-by anti-china quips, like bringing up China is genociding Muslims, or covered up the pandemic to save face, in sections completely unrelated to those topics. I also felt a weird attitude to Asian men in Iron Widow, so I checked around and saw Asian guys were saying the same thing, and that their work more broadly disregards them.
If you want queer English Chinese fantasy, the Radiant Emperor Duology is very good.

I'll check that out thanks, but so far this second book is not queer English Chinese Fantasy, it's Bella Swan/Katniss Everdeen recieves lectures on private property, the exploitation of peasants by a landlord class, and how "profitism" holds back humanity by paywalling opportunities... With asian furry mech characteristics.
I'm only 25% of the way in, so they could totally fumble the rest of the book. But if they don't, I'm happy to let them say whatever they want if it gets people to read this thing. It is flat out propaganda under the guise of a YA romance novel.
