Depends on your goals. I also play Pokemon in local tournaments so if i get dud packs it will usually have a usable trainer i can trade at the local store. I'd say 60% of my sold cards are from marketplace and 40% from being in the store every week.

That is to say, if you have a reliable way to connect to buyers (or you have the startup money to be able to grade cards), yeah it makes me a few extra hundred bucks a month on average.

It comes down to knowing what price lists people in your area are using and comparing the listings you see to those prices.

If you don't already want Pokemon cards it might be a little more effort than it's worth but hey.

If you steal packs go for Yu-Gi-Oh but if you buy them look at your local drug stores/walmarts/targets and see if they are selling "surging Sparks" booster packs for retail price. If they are, buy them all and either resell them for cash or crack them and gamble on the Pikachu lol

      Awesome thank you!

I play casually (pokepocket and tcg mobile) and am connected to people who play competitive both locally and in JPN. I'm only recently interested in trading for profit because my brother suggested he'd buy some starter kits for his kids, and then put some cards aside as an investment. I said yeah sure go ahead but you need to know who to sell to, how to sell and when, so I'm looking into it on his behalf.

it will usually have a usable trainer

By this do you mean Trainer cards (like item/pkmn/stadium) card?

Also if i ever finessed anything you wouldn't find me admitting to it here
