Public elEmployees in Alaska lost their pensions about 10 years back and we now have 401k type retirement accounts.

About 3 years back they were considering a bill to restore pensions to all public employees. I went to the committee hearings and testified on behalf of doing so. In terms of testifiers it was basically me and about 60 cops in uniform, with their guns and everything, probably on duty and getting paid to be there.

Alaska has a 60 billion dollar fund that they use to pay out dividends to everyone who has lived in the state for 2 years or more. They could cover pensions with ease if that was a priority.

Anyhow, the bill ended up getting amended during the committee hearing to restore pensions only for first responder. They also lowered the retirement age and years of service required for a full payout on account of the "psychological toll" of the police. It was wall to wall performative speeches from the committee members to boot lick the gun toting assholes in uniform. Honestly disgusting
