I've got some running shoes I took from my dad a few years ago that are now getting torn. I've mostly used them for walking but recently I have started actually running again.

So I figure this would be a good time to have shoes only for running but I'm not sure what to look out for. Let me know if you have any suggestions and thanks.

If it's possible for you (pandemic, etc) you should try and go to a running store and get a treadmill test done. They're usually free and help a lot with shoe selection. I have wide feet and a bit of posterior tibialis instability so I went for brooks shoes!

I've always liked Brooks. I think people are too performance-focused about shoes sometimes, it's not any detriment to have a slightly heavier shoe for amateur athletes.

If you need something for race day you can still get lighter ones. This way you can get most of your training and impact in shoes which lessen the load on your tendons. Obviously some of the running before the race should be done in the lighter shoes just to see how they are.

That's a great idea! I don't really know what shoe shape would be best for me so I guess that would be the way to find out

Brooks are the best but the most expensive and sometimes sold out, Asics are usable but you might want to get in soles for them. The best thing to do though is to go on AliExpress and search Li-Ning, they're like knockoff brooks and they only cost like 30 bucks but you have to wait like 6 weeks for shipping. Jimmy Butler and Dwayne Wade also have shoe deals with Li-Ning too so they're actually cool too.

I've used ASICS for about as long as I can remember, but that's because they're always on the clearance shelf so make of that what you will. Used to run a lot more than I do now and they did well for me.
