One in six ballots was spoiled after the nominally let-wing Yaku Perez asked his supporters to do that.
I've seen Ben Norton tweet things that indicate electoral fraud, but Arauz has conceded. I haven't yet checked the veracity of the fraud-claims myself.
The people voting for Yaku Perez (so-called leftist but CIA plant, but that's another topic) had their reasons to dislike the Correa party, so they voted blank, a far-right won, but the blank voters won't be ignored/treated-as-safe-vote by the center left the next time.
