If anything, the tech companies are worse because churches would just burn books. But tech companies delete entire communities, after profiting from their traffic
Federated technology in general is a major threat to the corporate social media hegemony. Exploiting the network effect is one of the major reasons platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are able to remain dominant, and federation serves as a catalyst to overcoming the network effect. If they start going on the offensive against federated protocols, don't buy their bullshit excuses for a second.
You're like, the only other person I've seen mention this. It drives me mad how Tumblr essentially burned the erotic library of Alexandria and people were just like 'lmao it's just porn.' There's a good chance Discord will try to ban all NSFW content to get back into the Apple store's good graces; that's what happened with Tumblr.

Every day a new division is forged under advanced capitalism, right now all those 'omg the rainbow children' type laws to hype up fear. Really shouldn't be a surprise, should be an assumed normal at this point.
Rainbow children as those in the lgbtqia spectrum. Repressing is the default. It is making the news more in the US since its the legal aspect ex trying to ban children from receiving treatment in at least 6 southern states, 1 of which I believe already passed, the whole gender-sex checks in Florida thing (though that's just oppressing children in general). The media is also trying to provoke a scare with the whole 'omg noncis athletes' thing as well to keep people uninformed and afraid.
Yes, despite the scares sometimes nice words are also said in the news and officials about representation, but there is no action. The laws aren't enforced for basic civil rights especially econ ones (as is the case for most). Words won't protect me or others on the street, on the job, and so on. Can't have rights if you can't damn be alive ffs.
The whole hrt, other treatment thing is an issue since people tend to realize these things about themselves when young (then repress, not always though). It really would make qol a lot higher by receiving speedy treatment (rather than deal with decades of dysphoria like me before finally being 'safe' to transition like me).
