I know there's a mod that's just keyboard based, but it looks like it would just be a pain in the ass to play.
:incorrect-suspicion: uh
:sus-deep: however your heart tells you
If you have a rig that will run it and VR hardware is your only hurdle, there's a decent amount of used headsets out there for cheap. I'm currently trying to get a Samsung Odyssey+ off fb marketplace for like a $100. That's like a top of line headset with resolution comparable to the Vive Pro and Index, both running about $800+.
The HP Reverb G2 is a pretty new and well rated piece of VR kit that’s exactly $599. Not wireless though, so that might be a dealbreaker. I have an Index and the wire’s never been an issue for me, and there are ways to cable it above your head if needed.
Alternatively, go with the Rift S or Quest 2 for $299 if you’re OK with linking your Facebook account. For the Quest 2 you either run a USB-C cable to the headset or use the recently released AirLink to stream your PC VR programs to the headset. For the Rift you run the cable.
Note that Facebook is pretty aggressive with phasing out the older products to normalise the Facebook account linking shit going forward, so pick your poison of either spending money or paying with your data. If you create a fake account just to use the Quest 2, you’ll probably get banned (on Oculus and Facebook) and you’ll need to do a factory reset and say goodbye to anything you bought on the Oculus store.
I wonder if it could be moded to be played using phone vr.
Also isn't Quest 2 like three hundred bucks?
Second this, quest 2 is your best bet. I mean no matter what you need a gaming PC too unfortunately.
But Quest2 requires a fb account and fb is a bit trigger happy on banning. Also, FB is straight up evil. So be wary.
There is a dude on the reddit vr sub who claims to have finished Alyx using an Amazon cloud instance...
